8-inch Gent’s Saw

The 8-inch Gent’s Saw from Blue Spruce Toolworks puts a blade similar to our Dovetail Saw into a form that some folks find easier to control when working on small scale joinery. While it has the same tooth configuration as the Dovetail Saw, the blade is 3" shorter and it has a chisel style handle instead of the traditional pistol-grip.

Don't confuse this saw with some of the mass-marketed "Gent's" saws out there. We take no shortcuts. The spines go through the same flattening, stress-relieving and milling process as those on our Dovetail and Carcass Saws, maintaining the tightest tolerances in the industry. The teeth are ground using cutting-edge abrasive technology, then inspected and refined by experts.

For those just getting into working with traditional hand tools, this saw makes an excellent entry point, and those with more experience will still find those tricky cuts where the smaller form factor makes the job simpler.

We offer the same choices on the Gent's Saw handles as we do on our chisels. We will make your saw with a resin-infused figured Maple or Cocobolo handle

The Blue Spruce Backsaw Holster
Fine-joinery backsaw blades are usually quite thin, and they can be prone to gaining 'memory' for stresses that have been placed on the blade when being stored. But with our specially designed holster, never have to worry about storing your cherished Blue Spruce Backsaw. The steel, carbide black powder coated holster cradles the spine of the saw, allowing the blade to rest without any stress whatsoever. We put our holster to the test, inserting and removing a single backsaw over 3,500 times. There was no hint of the coating failing, and not a scratch on the saw's spine or blade. While the holster is designed around our line of backsaws, we also tested it with a variety of backsaws, from 150+ years ago to various modern makers and in all shapes and sizes—they all fit. However, we can only guarantee fit with Blue Spruce Toolworks backsaws. The holster can be mounted in a horizontal or vertical position to suit your needs. It can be placed on a wall, under a shelf, diagonally on a workbench leg, or even underneath your workbench top.
