Our line of rasps combine the impeccable turned handles from Blue Spruce Toolworks, hand-stitched teeth on premium heat-treated blanks from our friends in Italy at B&B Artigiana, and a ferrule system adopted by farriers, built to stand up to their vigorous needs in horseshoe maintenance.
Most common rasps are machine-made, and have identical rows of teeth, causing chatter during use, and in turn, a bad finish. The good news, is our rasps are hand-punched in Northern Italy by second-generation tool makers, B&B Artigiana. The minor inconsistencies in the process ensure a tooth will engage the workpiece at a different interval than the tooth next to it, resulting in a much better finish.
These artisan makers also specialize in a very rare flat-toothed profile on some of their rasps. The increased cutting surface on these performs similarly to a paring cut, resulting in an extremely fine finish.
Our handle is turned from your choice of resin-infused Figured Maple or Bolivian Rosewood. A black nitride-finished ferrule houses four set screws to securely lock your rasp in place during use — a method used on farriers’ rasp handles to securely lock the rasp in place and stand up to aggressive use.
Like many other familiar areas of woodwork, these tools are best used progressively, from most to least aggressive. Our rasps come in 8” and 12” lengths. Our 12” rasps offer a longer stroke that results in faster cutting while our 8” rasps provide more control and are better suited for detail work or refining cuts from longer rasps.
