Mallet Options

August 09, 2013

The Blue Spruce Toolworks mallet with infused maple head has become a favorite of many fine woodworkers. The weight, balance and "bounce" are ideal for many tasks such as chopping out dovetails. The infusion process results in a head that is nearly indestructible while maintaining the beauty of the highly figured maple.  We often get compliments at shows such as "it looks too pretty to use", which is my cue to demonstrate its toughness by striking a chisel much harder than ever intended with no resulting marks or damage. The mallet has only been available with a fine African Blackwood handle and highly figured maple head. Unfortunately the costs of these materials has increased to the point that we must raise our price for this combination of materials. In order to offer a less expensive option, we now also have the mallet available with an infused, plain maple head and infused beech handle.  The two options are identical in form and function, just the aesthetics are different. Both are beautiful mallets and will help you achieve your finest work.  Stay tuned for a new mallet that we hope to introduce at this year's WIA show this October.
