Blue Spruce is saluting our veteran’s and honoring all who served with our 2024 Limited-Edition Veteran’s Day Round Mallet. Each resin-infused figured maple head houses an exclusive challenge coin, paying homage to our nation’s veterans, while a shimmering stainless-steel ring rests between the head and an infused American Cherry handle.

These challenge coins took inspiration from an American military tradition. Dating back to at least the First World War, these metallic medallions continue to be passed out by military leaders, signifying camaraderie, morale, achievement, and commitment. Challenge coins carry different symbols and mottos, corresponding to countless units and offices.  

Featuring our large, 13-16oz Curly Maple mallet head and an American Cherry handle, both are infused with a tough polymer resin that nearly doubles its weight and density, putting more “smack” into less space than simple wooden mallets. In addition to concentrating power, the resin protects the wood fibers from compression. And what you can’t see, but you will definitely feel, is how the head and handle are joined. A machined steel rod extends deep into both sections. The joining shaft is epoxied in place, adding mass and rigidity to the mallet.

We’re committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from selling these magnificent mallets to our Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute friends.  We will provide chisels and mallets as needed. This Michigan-based top-tier woodworking academy offers intensive courses, from spiral staircase building to cutting board crafting. The non-profit organization eases the cost of entry to our veterans through scholarships, grants, and GI benefits. We pride ourselves in our shared passion for art through woodworking.
